With the intense development pressure we have seen in Alberta over the past few years the need to conserve, develop and restore native prairie and parkland ecosystems is well recognized. Prairie Waves has been working with acreage owners, developers and golf courses helping them incorporate prairie grasses and native vegetation into their landscapes. The establishment of these areas will improve wildlife habitat, provide learning opportunities and greatly reduce costly maintenance.

Ornamental and Native Grasses

Prairie Waves specializes in a variety of field grown, Chinook hardy ornamental grasses.  Our native grasses are all grown on site and started from seed.  Plants are available in a variety of sizes from plugs to #5’s.

Custom Seed Blends

Working with our customers Prairie Waves develops a seed blend best suited for each individual site and situation.
Prairie Waves has developed native seed blends for large scale developments and golf courses.
In addition to traditional lawn seed blends, we also sell a fine fescue “Eco Blend”. The “Eco Blend” is designed for urban and rural homeowners wanting a more drought tolerant, low maintenance lawn.
Seed is sold in sizes from 1kg to 25 kg bags.

Hydroseeding

As an alternative to drop seeding or sod, Prairie Waves provide a custom hydroseeding service.
Hydroseeding is a process where seed, water, fertilizer and fiber mulch are mixed together using a specialized hydroseeding machine. Once mixed the slurry is sprayed evenly over the prepared surface. The slurry once applied provides protection from wind and rain erosion and helps promote germination. This type of application is especially successful for non irrigated areas and slopes.

Drill Seeding

For large areas less prone to erosion, drill seeding is a cost effective installation process. The drill seeder is specially designed to maximize seed soil contact. Primarily used in golf course construction, the drill seeder also works great for seeding an acreage lawn or large naturalized areas.
