With concerns related to water use, chemical inputs and maintenance (labor), Prairie Waves set out to provide homeowners, landscapers and developers with alternative plant material options. The use of grasses provides an exciting new look, and once established require very little water, minimal maintenance and little or no inputs from fertilizers or pesticides.

 

The use of Ornamental grasses goes back hundreds of years in history and has been popular in Europe for a long time. In the mid 1960’s ornamental grasses started to make their way into landscape designs in the US, and by the mid 1970’s they gained acceptance into the horticulture mainstream in the US and Canada.

 

With their extended season and an amazing array of colors, texture and form, ornamental grasses are used not only as specimen plants but provide amazing impact when mass planted.

 

 

 

In recent years we are seeing ornamental and native grasses move from private gardens and are now widely used in public places, parks, golf courses and large scale developments.
